Sad, Mad, Dangerous to Know*

 Sad

No leaves, no berries

Prompts the infant child to cry:

“Look, Mummy. Poor tree!”

Mad

No child, no lover

Prompts the single girl to cry:

“God, damn you! Why me?”

Dangerous to Know

“To hope is futile,”

Prompts the unseen patriarch.

“Look no more for me.”
